FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SHOPPING DAY WILL FILL “EMPTY HANGERS” FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB MEMBERS
Flint, MI (08/28/06) – Eight kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint will shop for new school clothes this Friday as the result of The Empty Hanger Program, which began on July 22.
The program began as a partnership between The Boys and Girls Club, Genesee Valley Center and Hangers.com, to help local children who were not able to afford school clothes this fall. The program raised money by selling wooden hangers for $10 each at Genesee Valley Center and other locations throughout Flint. 100% of the proceeds were pooled together to purchase gift cards for the kids to buy clothes and shoes.
“Each child will be given one gift card,” said Mark Serra, development director for the Boys and Girls Club of Great Flint, “The shopping will take place at JCPenney, who has graciously offered a special discount for the eight kids that day.”
The shopping day will take place Friday, September 1 at 10 a.m. and the selected kids will be escorted by employees of the Boys and Girls Club.
Hangers can still be purchased at the customer service desk at Genesee Valley. Funds raised before August 31 will benefit the kids shopping that day and funds raised after that date will go toward next year’s program.
Hangers were generously donated by Hangers.com. For more information contact Bobbie Chamberlain at 810-732-4000.
