While outdoors thermometers plummet, indoor temperatures are soaring as area chefs gear up their ovens for the "2001 Homes Sweet Homes" Gingerbread Sale and Auction, November 30th, December 1st and 2nd at Genesee Valley Center. There will be a "Gingerbread Reception and Auction of several "showcase" style pieces so designated for their significant level of detail and uniqueness on Sunday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30pm. Tickets are available for the reception by calling 810-238-4711.
"The ´Homes Sweet Homes´ event plays a very important role in our community," states Patricia Motter, chief executive officer at Shelter of Flint. "It provides an opportunity for local individuals and organizations to use their talents and creativity in a special way, one that not only brings fun to the holiday season, but that also raises much needed dollars to help the homeless in our area."
Each year, Shelter of Flint provides food, shelter and supportive services to more than 1,200 homeless women and families in Genesee and Lapeer Counties.
"Our clients come to us with many different needs," explains Motter. "Many may need help finding employment, completing their education, developing home management skills, or even re-discovering their self-esteem and sense of worth. With the support of our community through the events such as ´Homes Sweet Homes´, we are able to keep our doors open to these families, and in essence keep their opportunity for hope alive."
Persons interested in donating a gingerbread creation or in need of additional information about "Homes Sweet Homes" can contact the Shelter of Flint at 810/238-4711. Registration continues through Friday, November 23, 2001.
